Reflexology for Labour and Birth

As your due-date approaches, the thought of labour and birth can feel daunting and waiting for an over-due baby can be stressful, especially as the last few weeks of pregnancy can be uncomfortable. Reflexology encourages relaxation and is an excellent way to help the body prepare for labour and can sometimes be enough for labour to start. Reflexology is looked on favourably by gynaecologists and obstetricians and many recommend it. Dr Gowri Motha, an obstetrician, is a great advocate in her book, Gentle Birth Method.

Recent research from the University of Ulster shows that antenatal reflexology may reduce labour duration (4) and that reflexology can promote natural childbirth.
